The ambition is to explore the qualitative dimensions of human cognition of data representations across a range of senses (visual – aural –haptic – spatial – temporal). We aim to identify what each representation ‘affords’, in terms of human insight into big data pattern recognition and anomaly detection. From this core research, we anticipate being able to contribute to significant data analysis problems in a range of applied contexts.
